As a photographer, one of my primary jobs is to make the client feel comfortable. Here are a couple of tips that have worked for me in taking portraits of women.
Put them at ease and make them laugh. Make small talk. Ask about how the day is going. Try to get them to relax.
Find out what they think is their good side and why, and keep that in mind while photographing.
